On the evening of November 14, Xu Guodong, a famous civil jurist, a Roman jurist and a doctor of law from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, visited the 14th Qingjiang Law Forum of our Institute and gave a wonderful lecture entitled "Life Table and Civil Law" in the auditorium of Hongqi Campus. The lecture was presided over by the president of our hospital, Xiang Bo, and more than 700 teachers and students of our hospital listened to the lecture.

At the beginning of the lecture, Xu Guodong cited "life table". What is life table and its definition in Chinese dictionaries, Ulpian's life table and its application, Jefferson's view of death table and law, the interlacing of object life table and subject life table, China's life table and compensation for infringement of the right to life, the European life table and the compensation for the violation of the right to life are described in detail. He cited extensively and emphasized that the life table in modern civil law is very widely embodied in the form of an iceberg and a corner, which is mainly comprehensively embodied in the calculation method of death compensation and the calculation method of the depreciation degree of houses bearing the right of residence. This paper introduces the differences of Hoffmann's calculation method and Engel's calculation method in death compensation and the limitations of the theory of things, combs the evolution of the position of European law on the compensation for the right to life, especially analyzes the situation of Lessius, the contribution of Graucius and other jurists to the calculation of "life table".

Xu Guodong pointed out that life tables are used in a very wide range of ways, and many systems of civil law can be used, and they are most suitable for compensation for violations of the right to life. When calculating the depreciation degree of housing due to housing right, we should consider not only the life table of obligee, but also the life table of the house itself, that is, the design life of the house, which forms an interesting phenomenon that two life tables participate in the calculation. The concept of life table inserts the time axis for civil law. Taking the unique perspective of life table as the starting point of the study, it will greatly broaden the research perspective of modern civil law and draw many novel research viewpoints.
