At the beginning of the lecture, Xu Guodong used the“Life Table” as a guide, what is life table and its definition in our country's dictionary, Ulpian's life table and its application, Jefferson's view of death table and law, object's life table and subject's life table interlaced, our country's life table and compensation for infringement of the right to life, European life table and compensation for infringement of the right to life are discussed in detail. He quoted extensively, stressing that the life table is widely reflected in the modern civil law as the tip of the iceberg, and that it fully reflects mainly the calculation method of death compensation and the calculation method of the depreciating degree of houses bearing the right of abode, this paper introduces the differences between the “Hoffman calculation” and the “Ernst Engel calculation” of death compensation and their materialistic limitations, and reviews the evolution of the position of European jurisprudence on the compensation for the right to life, in particular, it analyzes the contribution of jurists such as Lessius and Glausius to the “Life Table” calculation. Xu Guodong pointed out that the use of life table is very wide, many systems of civil law can be used, the most suitable for use in the right to life infringement compensation. When calculating the devaluation degree of housing due to the burden of the right of abode, we should consider not only the life table of the obligee, but also the life table of the housing itself, that is, the design life of the housing, the interesting phenomenon of forming two life tables to participate in the calculation. The concept of life table provides the axis of time for civil law. Taking the unique perspective of life table as the starting point of study will greatly broaden the research perspective of modern civil law.
